A logo and a colour palette are not a brand system. The moment two people start making things — a deck here, a landing page there, an ad somewhere else — consistency quietly erodes unless something holds it together.
What a design system actually is
It is a shared library: type scale, colour roles, spacing, components and the rules for using them. Done well, anyone can produce on-brand work quickly, and nobody is guessing which blue is "the" blue.
- Faster production — components instead of blank canvases.
- Consistency across web, social and print without a gatekeeper.
- Cheaper change — update once, ripple everywhere.
You do not need a hundred-page manual. You need the dozen decisions you keep re-making, written down once.
