A refresh updates the surface. A redesign rethinks the structure. Spending refresh money on a redesign problem is how sites stay broken in expensive new clothes.
The tells
- It is slow and you have already optimised the easy wins.
- It is awkward on a phone — where most of your traffic actually is.
- You cannot update it without a developer.
- The content no longer matches what the business does.
- It looks dated next to the competitors you are losing to.
One or two of these? Refresh. Three or more? The foundations are holding you back, and a redesign will pay for itself faster than you think.
