What is 360-Degree Feedback?

360-degree feedback is a review process where an employee receives anonymous, structured feedback from the people around them — their manager, peers, direct reports and sometimes customers — rather than from their manager alone.

The aim is a rounded, balanced view of how someone works with others, not just what they deliver. Because feedback comes from multiple relationships, it surfaces blind spots a single manager review would miss, and it carries more weight with the person receiving it.

Done well, 360 feedback is anonymous (so people answer honestly), tied to clear behaviours or competencies, and followed by a development conversation and a plan. Done badly, it becomes a popularity contest or a box-ticking exercise — so the design of the questions and the anonymity of the responses matter a great deal.
